The 7W heating mat is the easiest way to heat your artificial ant farm. The 7W 15x28cm heating mat from Fourmiculture is enough to raise the temperature inside the nest to over 28°C! It's also ideal for heating up to 16 test tubes measuring 16x160mm.

A 15x28cm mat is suitable for all artificial ant farms thin enough to allow heat to pass through (especially those made of Plexiglas), as well as for test tubes and terrariums, depending on the substrate thickness. In any case, we recommend heating the nest from above to avoid the risk of condensation.

If your anthill is larger than 20cm on each side, it's advisable to choose a larger heating mat. However, it's not necessary to heat the entire surface of the habitat, and heating the damp part of the nest will create bothersome condensation.

We do not offer mats with integrated thermostats because these do not meet our safety standards. Therefore, please follow the instructions for use to properly manage the temperature in your breeding facility.

Instructions for use of the 7w heating mat:

– Always control the temperature with a Lucky Reptiles Thermo Control II thermostat or a thermometer.

– Without a thermostat, wait several hours until the maximum temperature is reached before installing your ants and adjust it by managing the distance between the mat and the ant farm using shims or a little insulation.

– Do not heat the damp area from below, as this will cause condensation

– The actual temperature inside the Plexiglas ant farm is 1 to 3°C lower than that measured on the other side of the glass. It is therefore advisable to place the probe inside the ant farm (if possible).

– Avoid placing the mat directly under the feeding area of ​​a model such as the Artemis to avoid the risk of overheating.

As with any technology, pay close attention to the temperature during the first few uses if you are not using a thermostat!

Economy :

This system is economical because the heat is used very efficiently. For example, a 40-watt desk lamp costs €12 per year in electricity and €8 for a 25-watt bulb, compared to only €2.25 for our mat!
