Description

Fourmiculture designed the Artemis Model 2 to succeed in breeding a long -term ant colony and elegantly integrate into its owner. The leaf anthill was drawn to present its technical qualities with elegance. It becomes possible to accommodate a large colony of ants with queen and workers at home to follow the evolution of their society in a fun, decorative and original way.

The first “design” anthill, the Artémis was at the origin of our quality approach many years ago. It then evolved throughout our research to be refined, to accommodate more qualitative materials and techniques adapted to the well-being of the ants. It was born from our questioning: how can we allow the observation of an anthill in an aesthetic, neat and pleasant object to have at home to promote this passion? The Artemis was designed for this purpose and is reborn today.

Between its crystal-clear Plexiglas surface to reveal the life of an ant colony and its high-level finish, the Artemis Model 2 enhances your passion for ants and provides its inhabitants with finely adapted living conditions.

Robotized machining ensures a clean cut of the satin Plexiglas. The feeding area, made from a single piece of aluminum, fits under the anthill and the finishing work done by hand gives it a natural nobility.

Its maple leaf shape and its many details, both aesthetic and technical, have received our full attention during its design, manufacture and experimentation over half a decade.

Natural rooms, a healthy environment.

The high and spacious chambers allow large colonies and the most imposing species (up to 16mm in length) to live there comfortably. The little ones will also feel welcome here. The use of materials that are healthy and resistant to time and humidity allows Artemis to follow the evolution of your colony over several years.

By favoring central corridors, as in natural anthills, the use of space is optimized.

A mineral layer is molded into the bottom of the chambers for effective moisture management. It provides natural support for ants and a good bacteriological balance. The anthill remains healthy over the long term and the ants develop there optimally. The stone-based material used is ultra-smooth, absorbent and resistant.

An efficient humidification system.

Located at the front of the Anthill, the Artemis humidification system consists of a large foam humidifier into which to inject water. Moisture is absorbed by the floor of the chambers and makes the main chamber damp, as well as a perimeter surrounding it. Thus, the ants can choose which part to favor and the humidity they need. The Artemis therefore adapts to almost all species. For the most particular ones like Lasius flavus, a free adaptation is made on request.

Humidity levels are easy to monitor thanks to the dark tint of the humidity chambers. This absorbent mineral layer also ensures significant autonomy for the Anthill: it reaches 3 weeks.

10 years of improvement.

Existing since 2010, our ant farm has been improved with new materials, mineral flooring, improved finishing, an exclusive humidification system and premium materials. Since then, the Artemis has outperformed all-plexiglass nests suffering from problems of mould, rust, toxicity and reduced humidity, as well as nests made of first-rate materials.

A well thought-out feeding area.

In order to feed your ants, the Artemis Artificial Anthill is equipped with a practical rectangular Feeding Area, accessible by a ventilated and laser-engraved cover, recessed for perfect safety. It allows your ants to continue their explorations outdoors. Each time a different decor is made by hand, inspired by nature.

An access ramp is placed under the Anthill and connects the central hole in the chambers to the feeding area.

The application of an anti-adhesive treatment on the walls prevents the majority of ants from climbing. It is probably the smoothest coating available on the market, without toxic products or sticky oils. However, it is sensitive to moisture and dirt.

Wishing to propose a third solution to extend the external environment of ants and facilitate breeding, we have developed external feeding areas called Observation Spaces. They are connected by a pipe and allow new observations. Our non-stick treatment is applied under the protection of a high frame for absolute efficiency.

5 Connection holes for extended possibilities

With 2 holes opening into the chambers and three others on the sides of the Feeding Area, it is possible to connect an accessory at will, in the desired direction. For example :

– Connect a feeding area to the back of the anthill.
– Install the ants through one of the holes leading into the chambers.
– Insert the probe of a thermometer to obtain an accurate measurement.
– Connect a second anthill by one of the remaining holes.

Thus, it is easy to expand the ants' environment if the Artemis is fully colonized, although ants naturally adapt to the available space. At any time, adding an Observation Space is easy and allows new discoveries.

The diameter of the holes is 9mm and 5 plugs are offered.

Sustainable and profitable

The Artémis Model 2 is removable because it is simply bolted. Its feeding area is easily accessible for cleaning. We offer spare parts (cover, glass) and a refurbishment service for less than a fifth of its price if you want to restore it to its full shine after a few years.
