This ant rearing system is remarkable for its use of a water-refillable tube (with a damp, plaster-covered surface) and a ventilated foraging area. The tube is securely held in place by a seal. This seal connects to the foraging area via a transparent staircase.

The ants will develop in the spacious plaster-lined nest tube and choose the most suitable humidity level based on the chosen location. As needed, they will explore the integrated foraging area to collect the food you provide. We recommend placing the food on a small dish.

The Nest with plaster tube can be refilled with water indefinitely, ideally using a syringe not supplied (preferably with a needle).

The tube ant rearing system is an old and well-established technique. It has been modernized here with the addition of plaster, a water refill system, and a foraging area connected to the tube. The dimensions of the rearing tube allow both large ant species and small, fast-growing species to thrive. It is particularly well-suited for exotic species.

The fact that this Plaster Tube Nest uses these special test tubes ensures successful ant rearing: increased comfort is guaranteed thanks to a natural material favored by ants. Humidity control is also improved and more gradual. This Plaster Tube Nest has been tested on Pheidole pallidula, Messor barbarus, and numerous exotic ant species from Asia.

The Nest with plaster tube is assembled with elastic bands and is delivered flat.

Not compatible with our ant installation service: your colony (sold separately) will generally be delivered in a separate tube. You will need to arrange for the relocation yourself, either by emptying the ants into the plaster tube or by releasing them into the foraging area. In the latter case, check that the ants are entering the plaster tube within 24 hours. If not, gently push them in.
