Description
Set of 10 ordinary glass test tubes, 16x160mm, suitable for ant enthusiasts and laboratories. Carefully packaged; multiple sets can be combined.
As a habitat for a queen and her first workers, test tubes have been used successfully for decades.
The water supply in test tubes is limited, as is the space. Therefore, a test tube cannot replace a real ant farm in the long term, but it will be perfectly suited to the first few months of a colony's life.
It can also be used in the feeding area as a long-lasting source of humidity to allow ants to settle inside while you are on vacation!
Glass is the ideal material due to its clarity, allowing for easy observation of its contents. We advise against using plastic (crystal polystyrene) test tubes, which are more prone to static electricity, less clear for ant observation, and also more likely to break. Our glass test tubes are made in France and are relatively thin, sufficient for all uses. Thicker 15x150mm test tubes are available, but are more expensive.
Instructions for using glass test tubes:
Fill the test tube one-third full with water and push in tightly packed cotton wool as far as possible until it touches the water. The cotton wool should remain dry on the side facing the ants. Seal the tube with another piece of cotton wool and place it horizontally. Tip: Replace the cotton wool with PVA foam, which is more practical and durable.
