The orphaned worker wasps of Aphaenogaster senilis are believed to be capable of feeding the larvae, provided they are given a large supply of protein, until they become queens. The workers then lay unfertilized eggs that produce males, which in turn mate to produce a new queen ready to save the struggling colony…
We suggest you try this experiment with queen colonies. The result is not guaranteed, but it allows you to discover the capabilities of this amazing species.
