Camponotus piceus is a species quite similar to other Camponotus in its lifestyle and diet (honeydew, insects) but smaller (although much larger than a Lasius), rather easy to breed if the food and temperature conditions are good.
A nest with average humidity and a 2-month wintering period at 10-15°C are necessary.
A rather rare species, ideal for housing an unusual species without great breeding difficulties.
Queen size (Camponotus piceus): approximately 1 cm.
Minor worker size: 3-4 mm.
Major worker size: 8 mm.
Rearing temperature: 27°C during the day.
Overwintering: 2 to 3 months at 10-15°C.
