This 30x30x30 cm glass cube has two 50mm side holes and two 10mm side holes. The 50mm hole (center point) is located at a height of 15 cm. The bottom edge of the hole is at approximately 12.5 cm.

The entire appeal of this vivarium lies in this point. It provides the necessary height to create your living landscape using substrate, rocks, and plants to recreate a microclimate and a tropical environment.

It will therefore be suitable for tropical plants and various insects including tropical ants of the Ponerine type, springtails, woodlice, etc.

More details: Our ANTCUBE Starter Set Vivarium was developed to give you the opportunity to provide your ants with a natural habitat. The Starter Set includes all the accessories necessary for basic use as a vivarium. However, substrate and optional accessories for ant care (soil, escape-proof frame, etc.) have been intentionally excluded, as the choice will depend on the plant and your specific project. For example, those who only want to keep plants in the vivarium do not need an escape-proof frame.

On this model, the side holes, for connecting other basins, are now 15 cm high (center of the hole). This allows you to fill the Formicarium with enough substrate to plant live plants directly and even add a 1-2 cm high drainage layer. The two 10 mm holes on the side, located 2 cm high (center), are for draining excess water. For example, you can use our 10/06 mm transparent tubing for drainage.

Our ANTCUBE terrariums are also perfect for providing a home for so-called "Ponerinae" species such as Odontomachus, Pachycondyla, and others. These species prefer planted, very natural-looking terrariums with plenty of substrate. Many of these species come from tropical regions with very high humidity.

Thanks to our frames, covers, grids or plugs, lamps, and air conditioners, the vivarium can be flexibly adapted to your needs (or those of your animals and plants). Our covers can be fitted with plugs or grids over the 50 mm holes to achieve the desired humidity or improved ventilation. In addition, lamp sockets, fans, or misters can also be plugged directly into the 50 mm holes.

Our frames are only necessary for raising ants. They secure the terrarium, preventing the animals from escaping, and make working in an open terrarium much easier. Furthermore, by using a frame, the lid can be omitted if desired.

Important: If you wish to keep plants and ants together, never use plants that you don't know have been in contact with fertilizers or pesticides. Only use plants from pet stores or similar retailers that guarantee the complete absence of pesticides and fertilizers. These can otherwise kill your ants.

Our tip: Ants can also be kept with small creatures like springtails and isopods. These not only provide a good, "inexhaustible" food source, but also destroy leftover food and other waste from your ants. They also feed on mold that can form due to high humidity and enrich the soil with nutrients, allowing plants to grow healthily.

If you prefer to keep only plants in your home, you can set up your terrarium with just plants. Plants are beneficial despite all the microorganisms mentioned above. However, it is not recommended to use certain species of isopods, because an isopod population without predators like ants, for example, can easily become uncontrollable, and the plants used will quickly become an unwanted food source.

Note: The glass is cut according to DIN 1249 with a tolerance of +/- 1 mm. For extremely small ant species, additional escape protection is essential; otherwise, choose larger species.
