This 30x30x30 cm glass cube has 2 side holes of 50mm 2 side holes of 10mm. The 50mm hole (center point) is located at a height of 15cm. The bottom edge of the hole is ~12.5 cm.

All the interest of this vivarium rests on this point. It gives you the height you need to create your living landscape using substrate, rock and plants to recreate a micro-climate and tropical environment.

It will therefore be suitable for tropical plants and various insects including tropical ants such as Ponerine, springtails, woodlice, etc.

More details: Our Vivarium ANTCUBE Starter Set, has been developed to give you the opportunity to offer your ants a natural habitat. The Starter Set includes all the accessories for basic use as a vivarium. On the other hand, the substrate and the optional accessories for the maintenance of the ants (compost, anti-escape frame etc.) have been intentionally excluded because the choice will depend on the plant and your project. Those who only want to keep plants in the vivarium do not need an escape protection frame for example.

On this model, the side holes, to connect other pools, now have a height of 15 cm (center of the hole). You can therefore fill in enough substrate to plant live plants directly in the Formicarium and even add a drainage layer 1-2 cm high. The two 10mm holes on the side, located 2cm high (center), are used to drain excess water. For example, you can use our 10/06 mm transparent pipe to drain water.

Our ANTCUBE vivariums are also perfect for giving so-called “Ponerinae” species such as Odontomachus, Pachycondyla or other species a home where they feel good. These species prefer planted and very natural formicariums, with plenty of substrate. Many of these species come from tropical regions with very high humidity.

With our frames, covers, grids or caps, lamps and air conditioners, the vivarium can be flexibly adapted to your needs (or those of your animals and plants). Our covers can be equipped with plugs or grids on the 50 mm holes in order to obtain the desired humidity or better ventilation. In addition, lamp sockets, fans or foggers can also be plugged directly into the 50mm holes.

Our frames are only needed for ant farming. They also secure the vivarium to prevent animals from escaping and above all facilitate work in the open vivarium. Also, by using a frame, the lid can be omitted if desired.

Important: If you want to make plants and ants cohabit, never use plants that you do not know if they have been in contact with fertilizers or pesticides. Only use plants from terrarium stores or other similar stores that guarantee the total absence of pesticides and fertilizers. These can otherwise lead to the death of your ants.

Our tip: Ants can also be kept with small creatures like springtails and isopods. These not only provide a good “inexhaustible” food source, but also destroy your ants’ leftover food and other waste. They also feed on mold that can form due to high humidity and enrich the soil with nutrients, allowing plants to grow healthily.

If you prefer to have only plants at home, you can set up your vivarium with them only. Plants are useful despite all the microorganisms mentioned above. However, it is not recommended to use certain species of isopods, because an isopod population without predators such as ants, for example, also likes to get out of control and the plants used then quickly become an unwanted food source.

Note: The glass is cut according to DIN 1249 with a tolerance of +/- 1 mm. For extremely small ant species, additional escape protection is essential, otherwise give preference to large species.
