Description

Fourmiculture designed the Artemis Model 2 for the successful long-term rearing of an ant colony and to blend elegantly into the home. The leaf-shaped ant farm was designed to showcase its technical qualities with style. It now allows you to house a large ant colony, complete with a queen and workers, and observe the evolution of their society in a fun, decorative, and original way.

The first "designer" ant farm, Artemis, was the starting point for our commitment to quality many years ago. It has since evolved through our research, becoming more refined and incorporating higher-quality materials and techniques adapted to the well-being of ants. It was born from our question: how can we allow the observation of an ant farm in an aesthetically pleasing, well-designed object that is enjoyable to have at home, thus enhancing this passion? Artemis was designed with this goal in mind and is reborn today.

A feast for the eyes.

Between its crystal-clear Plexiglas surface to reveal the life of an ant colony and its high-level finish, the Artemis Model 2 enhances your passion for ants and ensures finely adapted living conditions for its inhabitants.

Robotic machining ensures a clean cut of the satin-finish Plexiglas. The feeding area, made from a single piece of aluminum, is integrated under the ant farm, and the hand-finished details give it a naturally elegant appearance.

Its maple leaf shape and numerous details, both aesthetic and technical, received our full attention during its design, manufacture and experimentation over half a decade.

Natural rooms, a healthy environment.

The tall, spacious chambers allow large colonies and even the largest species (up to 16mm long) to live comfortably. Smaller species will also feel at home. The use of healthy, durable, and moisture-resistant materials allows the Artemis to adapt to the growth of your colony over several years.

By favoring central corridors, as in natural anthills, the use of space is optimized.

A mineral layer is molded into the bottom of the chambers for effective humidity management. This provides a natural substrate for the ants and a healthy bacterial balance. The ant farm remains healthy over the long term, and the ants thrive. The stone-based material used is ultra-smooth, absorbent, and durable.

A high-performance humidification system.

Located at the front of the ant farm, the Artemis humidification system consists of a large foam humidifier into which water is injected. The moisture is absorbed by the floor of the chambers, humidifying the main chamber as well as a surrounding perimeter. This allows the ants to choose which areas they prefer and the level of humidity they require. The Artemis is therefore suitable for almost all species. For more specialized species like Lasius flavus, a free adaptation is available upon request.

The humidity level is easy to monitor thanks to the dark color of the humid chambers. This absorbent mineral layer also ensures significant autonomy for the ant colony: it can last up to 3 weeks.

10 years of improvement.

Established in 2010, our ant farm has been improved with new materials, a mineral substrate, an enhanced finish, an exclusive humidification system, and premium materials. Since then, the Artemis has outperformed all-plexiglass nests that suffer from mold, rust, toxicity, and low humidity, as well as nests made from lower-priced materials.

You will be able to compare the first generation in video against the exclusive model you will receive after your order.

A well-designed feeding area.

To feed your ants, the Artemis Artificial Ant Farm is equipped with a practical rectangular feeding area, accessible via a ventilated, laser-engraved lid, recessed for complete safety. This allows your ants to continue their outdoor explorations. Each feeding area features a unique, handcrafted design inspired by nature.

An access ramp is placed under the anthill and connects the central hole in the chambers to the feeding area.

Applying a non-stick coating to the walls prevents most ants from climbing. It's probably the smoothest coating available on the market, free of toxic products and sticky oils. However, it is susceptible to moisture and dirt.

Seeking to offer a third solution for expanding the ants' outdoor environment and facilitating their rearing, we developed external feeding areas called Observation Spaces. These spaces are connected by a tube and allow for new observations. Our non-stick treatment is applied under the protection of an elevated frame for maximum effectiveness.

5 connection holes for expanded possibilities

With two holes opening into the chambers and three more on the sides of the Feeding Area, it is possible to connect an accessory at will, in the desired orientation. For example:

– Connect a feeding area to the back of the ant farm.
– Place the ants through one of the holes leading into the chambers.
– Insert a thermometer probe to obtain an accurate measurement.
– Connect a second ant farm through one of the remaining holes.

Thus, it is easy to expand the ants' environment once the Artemis colony is fully occupied, although the ants naturally adapt to the available space. Adding an Observation Area at any time is easy and allows for new discoveries.

The diameter of the holes is 9mm and 5 plugs are included.

Durable and advantageous

The Artemis Model 2 is easy to disassemble, as it's simply bolted together. Its feeding area is easily accessible for cleaning. We offer spare parts (lid, glass) and a refurbishment service for less than a fifth of its price if you wish to restore it to its former glory after a few years. To ensure your Artemis exceeds your expectations, it receives meticulous attention before leaving our workshop in the Alps.
