Modular nest Folia ormia
A new nest suitable for your young ant colony that easily connects to other modules as your anthill grows.
Description
Folia ormia is an optimized nest and qualitative for small and medium species, intended to accompany them in their foundation. Its design is inspired by an elm leaf and it incorporates the qualities that we like at Fourmiculture, in particular the use of a mineral soil andt of a systemefficient humidification with wet zone/dry zone. How better to take care of our living if not by using the appropriate tools? This nest answers this question and makes it possible to achieve it with an adaptable and affordable concept thanks to the use of bioplastic which is more economical than our premium Plexiglas®.
To shorten it
- 1) One week of water autonomy
- 2) Naturally tinted mineral sole
- 3) Adapted rooms
- 4) Almost invisible bolts and nuts
- 6) Modular and resealable easily thanks to a system of caps
Supplied with a filling flask, 1 section of pipe to connect the nest to other modules and a plug to block the outlet.
It exists in two versions to be connected on each side of a connecting branch. It is possible to add several several leaves, but also one or more harvesting areas to deposit the food. It is advisable to use at least 1 leaf nest, 1 branch and 1 harvest area.
Anatomy
Capillary humidification system: it will be easy for you to observe when the water supply has run out and filling it will be a breeze thanks to our filling bottle. Only two rooms will receive humidity, allowing your colony to settle in at ease.
Naturally tinted mineral sole . The ochre/charcoal provides a contrast to better observe your colony, while being perfectly natural. The sole is absorbent and porous to help maintain a healthy nest and limit flooding.
Its original elm leaf shape was designed by an artist partner of our project, then worked by us for 3D printing and laser cutting. Finally we were able to test and manufacture the final nest in our workshops.
Biological needs
The space made available to the ants contains two distinct areas, each meeting a specific need:
- A dry area which represents about 60% of the nest.
- A wet area that represents about 40% of the nest.
The wetland is crucial for many species, the tank easily allows you to last more than a week before refilling water, but it is necessary to monitor regularly. The colony can choose the area where it will live the most and this nest can thus be suitable for Messor as well as Lasius and many other species.
Modular
Once your foundation is cramped, all you have to do is connect the expansion modules you need thanks to Folia rama, a connecting branch for limitless creativity.
Plug in a nest with dry chambers, another with wet chambers or an extra-flat anti-escape feeding area. And later, maybe more fun modules to observe your colony in educational situations!
This modular installation will easily adapt to the space you have available but also to your budget. Its leaf shape will bring a touch of nature to your interior.
Don't hesitate to share your craziest installations!
Ecology, ethics and respect for life
Making and selling products on the Internet has an ecological impact. But that's no reason not to do everything possible to limit its impact on the planet. Thus, Folia is a product assembled AND manufactured entirely in France, including our orders for screws, mineral materials and Plexiglas that we place with French suppliers. More importantly, the green material used is a PLA of renewable, non-petroleum vegetable origin.
