Description

Fourmiculture presents this new nest concept as an official reseller. A design selected from the French manufacturer.
Folia ormia is an optimized nest and qualitative for small and medium-sized species, designed to support them in their colony establishment. Its design is inspired by an elm leaf and incorporates the qualities we value at Fourmiculture, notably the use of a mineral soil et of a system ofefficient humidification with wet/dry zone. How better to care for our living beings than by using the right tools? This nest answers this question and makes it possible to achieve this with an adaptable and affordable concept thanks to the use of bioplastic, which is more economical than our premium Plexiglas®.

To make a long story short

  • 1) One week of water autonomy
  • 2) Naturally tinted mineral sole
  • 3) Adapted rooms
  • 4) Bolts and nuts are almost invisible
  • 6) Modular and easily resealable thanks to a system of caps

Supplied with a filling vial, 1 section of tubing to connect the nest to other modules and a plug to seal the outlet.

It comes in two versions, one on each side of a connecting branch. You can add several leaves, as well as one or more gathering areas for depositing food. It is recommended to use at least one leaf nest, one branch, and one gathering area.

Anatomy

Capillary humidification system: it will be easy to see when the water reservoir is depleted, and refilling it will be a breeze thanks to our refilling bottle. Only two chambers will receive humidity, allowing your colony to settle in comfortably.

Naturally tinted mineral base . The ochre/charcoal color provides contrast for better observation of your colony, while remaining perfectly natural. The base is absorbent and porous to help maintain a healthy nest and minimize flooding.

Its original elm leaf shape was designed by an artist who partnered with our project, then refined by us for 3D printing and laser cutting. Finally, we were able to test and manufacture the final nest in our workshops.

biological needs

The space provided for the ants contains two distinct zones, each meeting a specific need:

  • A dry area that represents approximately 60% of the nest.
  • A wetland area that represents approximately 40% of the nest.

The wetland is crucial for many species; the reservoir allows you to easily maintain the colony for over a week before refilling, but regular monitoring is necessary. The colony will be able to choose the area where it will spend most of its time, and this nest is therefore suitable for Messor, Lasius, and many other species.

Ecology, ethics and respect for living things

Manufacturing and selling products online has an environmental impact. But that's no reason not to do our utmost to minimize our impact on the planet. Therefore, Folia is a product assembled AND manufactured entirely in France, including our orders for screws, mineral materials, and Plexiglas, which we place with French suppliers. Most importantly, the eco-friendly material used is a renewable, plant-based PLA, not a petroleum-based one.
