Description

The Medium Model 1 ant farm: A spacious habitat with natural chambers.

Built on its replaceable humidifier made of reinforced plaster and a milled Plexiglas base, the Medium provides a healthy, natural environment for ants to thrive. It also offers:

• Precise humidity control with 2 separate reservoirs and 4 humidity zones
• a feeding area with standard long-lasting escape-proof coating (without oil or talc.
• Very high quality manufacturing in France using parts and raw materials that are 100% from France and the EU.
• A design with matte green Plexiglas and crystal trim.

Inspired by natural ant nests to optimize their use, the chambers are cut from food-grade satin-finish Plexiglas to give them height. Numerous chambers allow a colony of any species, from 3 to 16 mm long, to thrive for an extended period. The long central tunnel with two exits to the feeding area maximizes ant activity and improves space utilization.

All the activity of the colony, usually invisible in the underground chambers, is revealed through the perfectly transparent glass and its secret organization takes place freely: food management, egg-laying, brood care… The height of about 1cm is suitable for the largest species as well as the smallest and allows for housing more than a thousand Messor or thousands of Pheidole, i.e. more than two years of development.

2 Humidity levels – Innovative hybrid humidifier.

The Medium's humidification system consists primarily of two foam pads into which water is injected. The moisture is then absorbed by the mineral substrate in the chambers, creating two humid chambers on the left and three humid chambers on the right. This allows ants to select the humidity level they require, making the Medium suitable for virtually any species.

You will therefore have the option of adjusting the humidity level according to the size of the colony and its needs (low for Messor, medium for Lasius). For small colonies, humidifying only one side is sufficient.

 

A feeding area with near-permanent escape prevention.

To feed your ants, the Medium Ant Farm is equipped with a very practical rectangular feeding area, accessible via a recessed lid. Laser-cut micro-mesh screens allow for air circulation and give the ants a sense of freedom. A laser engraving authenticates our creation, and each one features a unique, handcrafted design inspired by nature.

Its high walls have the advantage of preventing ants from climbing, even without the lid, thanks to a very long-lasting anti-escape layer.

Seeking to offer a third solution for expanding the ants' outdoor environment and facilitating their rearing, we developed external feeding areas called Observation Spaces. These spaces connect via a tube, allowing for new observation opportunities. Our non-stick coating is applied under the protection of a raised frame for guaranteed lifetime effectiveness.

An anti-stress Hyperfilter for your Ants (optional).

Ants thrive in ambient light. However, in bright light conditions or during your workday, you can choose to place your ants in darker conditions thanks to an innovative optical filter.

Made from fluorescent Plexiglas®, the Hyperfilter absorbs light and transmits some of it through fluorescence along its edge. The remaining light that passes through the filter is barely visible to ants, which cannot distinguish red and therefore feel protected.

New intelligent connection system. Open or closed?

The Medium has everything to please ants, but it doesn't stop there. Thanks to our new intelligent connection system, you can go further and add an Observation Area, connect a second Ant Farm, or any accessory compatible with a 9mm tube.
This factory-made connection system is reliable and practical thanks to its 2-position partitions (Open or Closed) that replace the usual rubber plugs. This system even allows you to manage traffic flow without disconnecting the existing accessory (external feeding area, tube, etc.): simply turn the partition one way or the other to allow or block passage! Ideal for expanding your ants' environment.

Durable and eco-designed.

The Medium Model 1 ant farm is easy to disassemble, as it's simply bolted together. Its feeding area is easily accessible for cleaning. We offer spare parts (lid, glass) as well as a refurbishment service for less than a quarter of its price if you wish to restore it to its former glory after a few years. To ensure that the Medium Model 1 ant farm exceeds your expectations, it receives meticulous attention before leaving our workshop in the Alps.
