Fourmiculture presents its creation: Artificial ant farm medium Model 3

Built on its replaceable humidifier made of reinforced plaster and a milled Plexiglas base, the Medium provides a healthy, natural environment for ants to thrive. It also offers:

• Precise humidity control with 2 separate reservoirs and 4 humidity zones
• a feeding area with standard long-lasting escape-proof coating (without oil or talc.
• Very high quality manufacturing in France using parts and raw materials that are 100% from France and the EU.
• Often copied, never equaled.

A spacious habitat with natural rooms.

Inspired by natural ant nests to optimize their use, the chambers are cut from food-grade Plexiglas to give them height. Numerous chambers allow a colony of any species, from 3 to 16 mm long, to thrive for an extended period. The long central tunnel with two exits to the feeding area maximizes ant activity and improves space utilization.

A thin sheet of fluorescent red Plexiglas®, shaped to fit the rooms, was added at floor level. The fluorescence of this material works by absorbing invisible UV rays and converting them into visible red light. The result is exceptional brightness and a unique design.

The red plate is covered with a thicker sheet of matte black Plexiglas®, which is then covered by the laser-cut glass. All of these plates are bolted onto the mineral humidifier.

The glass is cleanable and replaceable, guaranteed for 30 years against yellowing, and extremely transparent with 92% light transmission. All of these panels are bolted onto the mineral humidifier.

The height is suitable for both the largest and smallest species and allows for housing more than a thousand Messor or thousands of Pheidole (equivalent to more than two years of development, then the population stabilizes).

Two humidity levels – Innovative hybrid humidifier.

The Medium's humidification system consists primarily of two foam pads into which water is injected. The moisture is then absorbed by the mineral substrate in the chambers, creating two humid chambers on the left and three humid chambers on the right. This allows ants to select the humidity level they require, making the Medium suitable for virtually any species.

Standard permanent escape prevention – Hand-decorated feeding area.

In order to feed your ants, the Medium Ant Farm is equipped with a revolutionary rectangular Feeding Area.

Its white walls are treated with a specially formulated non-stick product developed in the United States to make them impossible to climb.

This non-toxic and ultra-slippery product lasts as long as the walls are protected from dirt, fingerprints and moisture (up to several months or years).

We strongly recommend leaving the lid open to allow moisture to escape and ensure optimal viewing. Should the coating wear in the future, the lid can be replaced or the coating renewed using a simple applicator.

An engraving on the lid authenticates our creation, and laser-cut micro-grids renew the air so that the ants feel free.

Each ant farm features a unique, handcrafted design inspired by nature. It incorporates natural elements such as preserved plants, rocks, roots, and ochre pigments. Your ants will love exploring it in search of food, and it's also replaceable, allowing you to refresh your ant farm in the future.

Intelligent connection system. Open or closed?

The Medium has everything to please ants, but it doesn't stop there. Thanks to our new intelligent connection system, it's possible to go further and complement it with an Observation Space, connect a second ant farm, or any accessory compatible with a 9mm tube.

This factory-made connecting system is reliable and practical thanks to its two-position partitions (Open or Closed) that replace the usual rubber stoppers. This system even allows you to manage traffic flow without disconnecting the existing accessory (external feeding area, tube, etc.): simply rotate the partition one way or the other to allow or block passage! Ideal for expanding your ants' environment.

An anti-stress Hyperfilter for your Ants (optional).

Ants thrive in ambient light. However, in bright light conditions or during your workday, you can choose to place your ants in darker conditions using an innovative optical filter.

Made from fluorescent Plexiglas®, the Hyperfilter absorbs light and transmits some of it through fluorescence along its edge. The remaining light that passes through the filter is barely visible to ants, which cannot distinguish red and therefore feel protected.

Optional observation area.

To expand the ants' outdoor environment and facilitate breeding, we have developed external feeding areas called Observation Spaces. These are connected by a tube and allow for new observations. Our non-stick treatment is applied under the protection of a raised frame for guaranteed lifetime effectiveness.

Durable and eco-designed.

The Medium is easy to disassemble as it's simply bolted together. Its feeding area is easily accessible for cleaning. We offer spare parts (lid, glass, mineral flooring) if you wish to restore it to its original condition after a few years.
