The Secret of Ants – An Introduction to Ant Farming

Ants, numbering 12,000 species worldwide, have evolved to achieve an incredible mastery of organization and the most unexpected solutions for survival.
But when we studied the most interesting ant species, we realized it was possible to meet their needs by recreating a suitable environment.
By controlling the right parameters of the anthill, their world unfolds: the queen lays eggs, the workers become active, and the colony grows. Did you know that a colony can live for more than 15 years?

We have amassed all the necessary knowledge about ants over the past 15 years. Myrmecologists (ant experts) sometimes call upon our services for ant rearing, as do numerous enthusiasts and schools. Indeed, while ants are quite easy to raise when conditions are right, this is only true if their needs are properly met with a suitable artificial ant farm, preferably not made entirely of Plexiglas or plastic (see our best models here ). The secret to ant rearing lies in a precise balance of their needs, particularly regarding humidity and food. This allows them to reveal their social behaviors, egg-laying, hunting, and so on.

The secret of ants also lies in numerous characteristics specific to each species: formic acid hunting, exploration using visual landmarks, food storage, aphid farming, venom hunting, chemical disruptors, slavery, robbing… Ants are capable of remarkable feats that can be discovered in videos or in each of the corresponding fact sheets. You will find our different species here .
