Generation 2.8 anthill design

A completely new generation of ant nests.

In 2022, we began developing a new generation of ant farms. The first model to benefit from this research is the Minora Model 4. Only the overall design has been retained; everything else has changed. In this article, you'll learn more about why and how we created this innovative and completely different generation of ant farms.

A long evolution for the good of the ants.

The first Minora ant farm models were sold in 2015. From the beginning, we have focused on improving ant-keeping conditions rather than simply reselling equipment, which often leads to disappointment. This model was hand-drawn, then computer-aided design, digitally cut from Plexiglas, and finished by hand. Thanks to this, we have been able to help hundreds of schools and individuals successfully raise their ants in a Minora ant farm.

The 2.7 generation was composed as follows:

  • Design of an efficient humidifier based on plaster on the floor,
  • Layering of Plexiglas sheets for a very aesthetically pleasing finish
  • Plexiglas window
  • Connection system with hatches and flexible hose.

Now a complete break: the 2.8 generation

The 2.8 generation uses scratch-resistant glass instead of Plexiglas, thick and solid with a foliage pattern: like a windshield, the glass remains more solid in case of impact for safety.

Instead of layers of Plexiglas, the 2.8 generation prefers HDPE (high-density polyethylene like food bottles and flasks) for the base.

Machined from a single piece of this material, the ant farm is more stable, there is no longer a need to use as many bolts and we can therefore opt for an innovative magnetic fixing.

Inside, we use absorbent concrete developed specifically for ants by Fourmiculture after several months of research and testing. This material, similar to porous stone, demonstrates superior overall growth and a reduction in soiling.

Finally, we've also adopted a magnetic attachment for the accessories. This way, no pieces will fall out if a child turns the ant farm upside down, and it's easier and more reliable to add elements, without the need for flexible tubing that ants sometimes manage to chew through.

This extensive research has led to the production of a 100% French product, manufactured locally in a workshop supporting the employment of people with disabilities, using raw materials that are also French. Fourmiculture thus designs, manufactures, and distributes high-quality equipment for the well-being of ants and the success of your ant farm.
