Description
Recommended breeding conditions for Acromyrmex:
Installation and maintenance:
- Provide a container that is at least 20cm high, 20cm deep and at least 40cm long, and watertight.
- If your room is not at least 24°C constantly, add a reptile-type heater.
- Fill the tray with 3cm of water. Check for excessive condensation; if there is, adjust the heating accordingly.
- Place the 2 modules (mushroom module and power supply module) side by side, the ants will move around via the platform.
- Offer leaves and flowers in the feeding module, or as close as possible to the colony in the early days.
- Clean the tray and change the water approximately once a week depending on the amount of waste the ants produce.
Temperature :
- Daytime temperature: 24 to 27°C for optimal growth
- Nighttime temperature: 22 to 24°C
- The temperature should be consistent, with minimal fluctuations. Please heat the inside of the enclosure rather than the walls from the outside.
- Tip: Place a heating cable under the ceiling of your enclosure (terrarium, box, etc.). Ensure the system is compatible with the humidity level. Alternatively, heat a display case from the inside and place the modules in a water tray inside.
- If the room temperature is variable, add a thermostat available in terrarium shops / online.
Humidity :
- The humidity level in the modules should never be less than 90%.
- The feet are made of absorbent concrete; moisture rises by capillary action.
- The modules must be placed in 3cm of water.
- It is possible to vary the humidity level with a lower or higher water level.
- Do not add water until it reaches the platform.
Feed :
- Non-toxic leaves and untreated flowers (not from the florist): Roses, rose bushes, winter herbs and brambles, tree leaves, vegetables such as cabbages, carrots, etc.
- Fruits can be added as a complement, such as grapes, apples, and bananas.
- If in doubt, abstain or check the toxicity: no ivy, sumac, laurel etc.
