Fourmiculture presents its creation: the Minora Model 2 Generation 2.6 ant farm

Designed by Fourmiculture and built using the best current technologies, La Minora was designed in 2010 and refined for 7 years before presenting this new generation in 2017. More advanced and healthier than an all-Plexiglas nest, La Minora is an artificial ant farm that provides excellent living conditions for ants and allows for clear observations of their behavior.

The name "Anthill" comes from the small worker ants, "minor," as it is designed to successfully establish and develop a young ant colony, regardless of species, from 3 to 16 mm in length. Its advanced design ensures performance over several years, allowing you to monitor the colony's growth and expand as needed thanks to its new connection system.

Powerful and innovative mineral humidifier.

Built on a humidifier made of bioplastic and absorbent mineral material, the Minora provides a healthy, natural environment for ants, precise humidity control, and a good bacterial balance. The ant farm remains healthy over the long term, and the ants thrive.

The water is absorbed by the green moss and then transmitted to the mineral floor of the chambers, providing the ants with a wet zone and a clearly defined dry zone. 3 rooms are humid and 5 are drier. Thus, the ants can choose the humidity they need, which allows the Minora to adapt to almost any species.

Natural rooms.

Inspired by natural ant nests to optimize their use, the chambers are cut from 8mm thick food-grade Plexiglas® SatinIce. This compromise is suitable for both large and small species and can house a few hundred Messor ants or several thousand Pheidole ants, representing more than a year's worth of development.

All the activity of the colony usually invisible in the underground chambers is revealed through the crystal-transparent glass and its secret organization takes place freely there: food management, egg laying, brood care...

The glass is cleanable and replaceable, guaranteed for 30 years against yellowing and extremely transparent with 92% light transmission.

A thin, transparent panel, cut to the shape of the chambers, was also added at floor level for exceptional brightness. This was covered by a thicker, satin-finish panel, which was then covered by the glass. All of these panels are bolted to the mineral humidifier.

An anti-stress Hyperfilter for your Ants (optional).

Ants thrive in ambient light. However, in bright light conditions or during your workday, you can choose to place your ants in darker conditions using an innovative optical filter.

Made of Fluorescent Plexiglas®, the Hyperfilter absorbs light and transmits part of it by fluorescence effect through the edge. The remaining light that passes through the filter is barely visible to ants who cannot distinguish red and feel protected.

Smart link system. Open or closed?

The space is usually enough for more than a year of continuous development.

After that ? The Minora 2.6 is equipped with an original and intelligent linking system: 2 9mm holes allow you to connect a second anthill to the first once fully colonized (although the ants adapt to the available space) or a external feeding as one of our Observation Spaces.

This factory-made connection system is reliable and practical thanks to its new rectangular hatches with two positions (Open or Closed) that replace the usual rubber plugs. Inspired by the Quadricity, this system even allows you to manage traffic flow without disconnecting the existing accessory (external feeding area, tube, etc.): simply rotate the partition one way or the other to allow or block passage!

 

Integrated feeding area.

You will have the option of placing your colony's food in the feeding area, accessible via a lid. Its laser-cut ventilation system removes moisture and refreshes the air, making the ants feel as comfortable as if they were outdoors. Each miniature scene is handcrafted, unique, using simple, natural materials, while a laser engraving authenticates our work.

To take things further, an external feeding area will be useful once the colony is well established. For example, an optional Observation Area can be connected to the Minora as shown above. It offers a more spacious environment for foraging ants without allowing them to escape, despite its open design: a non-stick frame makes any escape impossible.

Made with 41% more bioplastic thanks to a completely redesigned and innovative construction, no parts are glued. The entire ant farm is simply bolted together for easy cleaning with water, replacement of parts, or future upgrades.

Its satin Plexiglas core is virtually indestructible and the glass is replaceable, while the mineral humidifier containing the floor of the rooms is designed as a consumable: easy to unscrew and replace, it allows you to find rooms as clean as the first day and an almost new anthill for a fraction of its purchase price.

The Minora Model 2 ant farm is assembled in our workshop located in the Alps. It contains no parts or even raw materials of non-French or European origin.
