Lesson plan: Ants in the Classroom – And email support
9,90€
An electronic teaching resource on ants in the classroom, offering advice on how to maintain an ant colony in the classroom. A guide for teachers to help them make the best observations.
Description
The "Ants in the Classroom" teaching resource is an ebook with 10 teaching sessions.
Fourmiculture offers this booklet to help teachers make the most of their ant farm from a pedagogical point of view: what scientific concepts can be addressed with students, around the theme of ants? Ant anatomy, ant colony organization, diet, life cycle… these are all discoveries that can be made in a simple way.
To complement the ant teaching sheet, we suggest the book " Ants " from the "Great Animal Imagery" collection published by Fleurus. It will provide additional information and illustrations. In addition, observations can also be made on a natural anthill during the warmer months (one can almost always be found in schoolyards).
Example of session 1: "A flurry of ideas"
Materials: the Minora Artificial Ant Farm from the Educational Pack , materials to create a poster (A3 paper minimum and markers).
Announce that the class will be working on ants. Ask the question: " What do we think we know about ants? What would we like to learn about them?" Draw two columns on a poster to write the class's suggestions... The rest of our advice can be found in the e-booklet!
Example of Session 5: What do ants eat?
After asking students to share their ideas about the different foods ants eat, the teacher invites them to choose several to test. Photos and specific tips are included in the guide.
The educational sheet is a companion to the ant educational kit offered by Fourmiculture , with artificial ant farm and ants.
Email support included!
