Ants of the seed-eating species Messor barbarus are carefully raised in our lab inside breeding tubes and include at least 1 queen, the first workers and larvae . Our know-how allows us to select as many tubes as possible with a maximum number of workers (often between 20 and 40) whose value alone is 39 euro. You can choose to order another species separately and ask us to replace the Messor barbarus (example: Camponotus nicobarensis or fedtschenkoi from Asia active in winter) .

Example of rearing after 1 year of development with Messor minor ants in an Artificial Minora Model 1 anthill:

Adopt ants at school with a well-chosen species for your educational project:

The Pack comes with Messor barbarus ready to install in the anthill. It is a harvester ant from the south of France capable of storing the seeds (provided) on which it feeds to live with very little maintenance: its stocks can last for months!

Major worker Messor barbarus
Major worker Messor barbarus

It develops easily and offers good observations, in particular thanks to its very large size (up to 14mm for the queen and the major workers). Workers are divided into minor media and major castes, from smallest to largest. The major workers appear after about a hundred workers and their impressive size allows them to carry the heaviest seeds and protect the nest.

NB: This species must winter from mid-November to the end of January around 12°C (minimum 8°C and maximum 17°C). Just leave it in its transport tube as long as it is damp, or place the whole anthill in a cool room without forgetting the humidity and a little food. Guaranteed spawning in the spring.

Value: 29€. Colony offered in the Pack!

Transport and professional service on the Kit Ants:
The transport of the ants is carried out in a tube suitable for transport, ready to connect to the anthill to proceed with the move. We guarantee a healthy delivery transport to your home or any school. We are recognized by the veterinary services and select the most beautiful colonies from our breeding (sometimes over a year old). All that remains is to take care of it according to the Guide du Parfait Antculteur provided!

Innovative artificial anthill:

Minora anthill by Fourmiculture: Your colony will grow comfortably up to several hundred workers in the Minora 2.6 artificial anthill designed and manufactured by Fourmiculture using the most advanced technologies.

This artificial anthill respects the natural needs of ants and recreates a balance similar to that which they find in nature, without the problems of mold and parasites, in particular thanks to a unique mineral humidifier.

Available in matt green or white with crystal edging, or matt black with fluorescent red edging depending on stock.

See why this Artificial Anthill makes it possible to successfully raise ants at school.

Optional Observation Space: A natural exploration ground.

Observation Space 25x15cm
Example of installation: Observation space 25x15cm connected to a Minora anthill

Ideal after a certain growth to better observe and manage your breeding.

We have designed the Observation Spaces to connect to your Artificial Anthill.

Open to the outside, they recreate the environment that ants encounter outside the nest. They allow the enthusiast to deposit the food more easily and observe the behavior of the colony.

The non-stick treated frame ensures 100% that no ant will ever be able to leave the Space despite its opening. Absolute efficiency guaranteed!

With or without natural artist decor depending on the option chosen.

An optional anti-stress Hyperfilter for your Ants at School Educational Kit.

Classroom ants live comfortably in ambient light. However, in case of strong light or during your working day, you can choose to put your ants in darker conditions thanks to an innovative optical filter.

Made of Fluorescent Plexiglas®, the Hyperfilter absorbs light and transmits part of it by fluorescence effect through the edge. The remaining light that passes through the filter is barely visible to ants who cannot distinguish red and feel protected.

More info on the Hyperfilter.
