As part of “Grenoble, European Green Capital 2022”, Fourmiculture has developed an innovative human-scale breeding module allowing you to produce your own source of protein with a low CO2 impact, directly on site. Ideal for feeding your ants, fish, poultry etc. Indeed, cockroaches in particular are easy to feed with food scraps, they transform low-value food into high-quality protein. Their consumption improves the growth of animals and their droppings form a natural fertilizer stimulating the biological activity of the soil (productivity gain estimated at +20% on average for vegetables).

Objectives of Fourmiculture during the creation of this project:

1. To create the only ultra-reliable, simple, powerful personal breeding system, but also pleasant to observe and educational.
2. Offer a solution for recycling household meal leftovers: cockroaches eat the same things as you (vegetables, meat, fish, etc.).
3. Produce the highest quality protein (richer than mealworms for example) and fertilizer with manure.

This module consists of a modular and scalable structure in indestructible polycarbonate. The module has a mesh drawer to collect droppings and a bolted assembly to replace parts if necessary. For example, it is possible to replace the rear panel with a heating panel if you do not have a temperate place.

The modules can also be mounted in series by a fastening system and thus multiply your production capacities.

Main advantages:

• Simplicity: Easy to feed insects with meal scraps, fish food, dog food, vegetables etc. To be placed on the top of the boxes.
• Hygiene: the insects live vertically and not in contact with their droppings.
• Cleaning: Dejection drawer for easier recovery. Possible use as fertilizer after sterilization.
• Collection: the vertical boxes are held by a rod. Couldn't be easier to remove to empty the cockroaches into a collection bin.
• Security: Cockroaches cannot climb the smooth walls and a locked fence secures everything.
• Indestructible structure: aluminum frame with indestructible polycarbonate panels.
• Modular concept: each part can be replaced by another more recent part for new functionalities. Each module can be mounted in series.

Predictable :

1. Cockroach colony (provided by Fourmiculture at a reduced price, species easier to breed)
2. Heating to 28°C by an optional heating panel or Amazon heat lamp, otherwise hot room possible.

It will take a little patience for us to finish production of this new concept. Once delivered, you will need to assemble the panels with the bolts provided, install around 1000 cockroaches (to be ordered at a favorable price from us) and wait for the first births. In a few months, your breeding should begin to be productive if the temperature is sufficient and the food regular and rich enough.
