An excellent granivorous species, very easy to raise even in winter! The queens lay eggs as soon as they swarm and establish their colonies during the winter. Diapause is unnecessary.
Our queens are delivered in a tube with enough water autonomy to have the first workers during the winter or the beginning of spring.
DELIVERY TIME: estimated at a maximum of a few weeks after acclimatization in our lab.
Some of our queen bees will already have eggs upon delivery, while others generally have over an 80% chance of laying eggs quickly after arrival. For a 100% guarantee, choose our 3-month success guarantee: if the queen doesn't lay eggs within 90 days of arrival, we'll send you a queen with eggs or a colony free of charge!
To continue raising the ants in the tube for a few weeks or months, it is ideal to add a small feeding/hunting area. We offer this as an option.
How to raise the Messor minor hesperius queen:
- Keep the queen in her original tube without food until the worker bees are born.
- Place it in a warm spot, without too much light, ideally around 26°C during the day and 20-22°C at night.
- Wait until the first worker bee is born and give them a pinch of seeds (Power Mix or Messor Mix).
- Continue rearing in tubes until there are about twenty workers before installing them in an ant farm.
