Description

Concept of the Ant Maze:

Very fun, the Fourmiculture maze is a way to extend the distance traveled by exploring ants, for example between one of our anthills and a hunting area or Observation Space.

You will be able to determine the time necessary for the worker explorators to find their way and mark the passage. Then, it becomes very relevant to improve observations and follow the path of ants through the Plexiglas window. Indeed, from the marked passage, the ants will move easily from one point to another by the shortest path thanks to the use of trail pheromones.

Manufacturing and dimensions:

The Fourmiculture Labyrinth has trapdoors to allow passage or not. It is made of green bioplastic with a white background for perfect contrast and has a recessed Plexiglas window for transparency.

Labyrinth compatible with all species, 16mm long maximum.

Despite “small” dimensions of 11x7cm, the distance that ants can travel between the entrance and exit is equivalent to a straight line of 80cm!

  • Plexiglas® recessed glass with crystalline transparency,
  • High-end and fine workmanship, the longest and quality manufacturing parameters,
  • Use of ecological bioplastic,
  • Removable by integrated bolts and cleanable,
  • … And 100% made in France!

Facts about ants you should know:

Did you know that it is the oldest ants that leave the nest to explore? Indeed, these more seasoned ants spent the first part of their life in the nest taking care of the brood. Then, they evolve towards the exploration of the outside of the nest and use track pheromones to return to the nest and mark the shortest path, ideal for finding the way through a labyrinth!

When ants pass each other, they communicate via pheromones and in particular indicate to their congeners the presence of food or a potential threat, indicating to others whether it is relevant to cross the ant maze and for what reason.

The ants can thus be invited to quickly cross the ant maze to collect the food made available at the other end or to defend the colony in the event of a threat.
