Fourmiculture presents its limited creation: the Anthill Plexi Minora Generation 2.6

Designed by Fourmiculture and built using the best current technologies, La Minora was designed in 2010 and refined for 7 years before presenting this new generation in 2020 in its matt black finish with fluorescent red edging. More advanced and healthy than an all-Plexi nest, the Minora is an artificial anthill to provide excellent living conditions for ants and clear observations of their behavior.

The name of the Anthill comes from the small “minor” workers because it is designed to successfully install and develop a young colony of ants for more than a year of development, whatever its species from 3 to 16mm in height. long. Also effective in the longer term thanks to an advanced design, it allows you to follow the evolution of the colony and grow as needed through its connection system.

Natural rooms.

Inspired by natural anthills to optimize their use, the chambers are cut out of food-grade Plexiglas® to a height of 8mm and fixed to a damp mineral floor. This height compromise is suitable for both large and small species and can accommodate a few hundred Messor or several thousand Pheidole, i.e. more than a year of development.

Ant farming design.
A thin sheet of fluorescent red Plexiglas® in the shape of the rooms has been added at ground level. The fluorescence of this material consists of absorbing invisible UV rays and transforming them into visible red light. The result is exceptional luminosity and an extraordinary design.

The red plate is covered with a thicker matte black Plexiglas® plate, finally covered by the laser-cut glass. All of these plates are bolted to the mineral humidifier.

Powerful and innovative mineral humidifier.

Built on its Plexiglas and reinforced plaster humidifier, the Minora provides healthy natural support for ants, precise management of humidity and a good bacteriological balance. The anthill remains healthy over the long term and the ants develop there optimally.

The water is absorbed by the green moss and then transmitted to the mineral floor of the chambers, providing the ants with a wet zone and a clearly defined dry zone. 3 rooms are humid and 5 are drier. Thus, the ants can choose the humidity they need, which allows the Minora to adapt to almost any species.

The glass is cleanable and replaceable, guaranteed for 30 years against yellowing and extremely transparent with 92% light transmission.

All the activity of the colony usually invisible in the underground chambers is revealed through the crystal-transparent glass and its secret organization takes place freely there: food management, egg laying, brood care...

Smart link system. Open or closed?

The space is usually enough for more than a year of continuous development.

After that ? The Minora 2.6 is equipped with an original and intelligent linking system: 2 9mm holes allow you to connect a second anthill to the first once fully colonized (although the ants adapt to the available space) or a external feeding as one of our Observation Spaces.

This connection system is particularly practical thanks to its rectangular hatches with 2 positions (Open or Closed) which replace the usual rubber plugs. This system even makes it possible to manage traffic without disconnecting the accessory in place (external feeding area, tube, etc.): simply turn the partition in one direction or the other to authorize or prohibit passage!

Integrated feeding area on the Plexi Minora anthill.

You will have the opportunity to deposit the food of your colony in the feeding area accessible by a lid.
Its laser-cut ventilation is used to evacuate humidity and renew the air so that the ants feel like they are outdoors. A micro-decor is made by hand, each time unique, with simple and natural materials while a laser engraving authenticates our work. To go further, an external feeding area will be useful once the colony is well developed. For example, an optional Observation Space can link to the Minora as shown above. It offers a more spacious environment for explorers in search of food without letting them out despite its opening to the outside: a non-stick frame makes any escape impossible.

An anti-stress Hyperfilter for your Ants (optional).

Ants live comfortably in ambient light. However, in case of strong light or during your working day, you can choose to put your ants in darker conditions thanks to an innovative optical filter.

Made of Fluorescent Plexiglas®, the Hyperfilter absorbs light and transmits part of it by fluorescence effect through the edge. The remaining light that passes through the filter is barely visible to ants who cannot distinguish red and feel protected.
