______________________________________________________________________________________________

Camponotus cruentatus is a rather rare and sought-after species which impresses with its size: the queen measures about 15mm and the workers can measure up to 18mm, or even more in large colonies: this Camponotus holds the record for the largest worker in France with 21mm!

As for the young colonies, they include workers of about 7mm.

All our colonies, all species combined, are raised with care in our laboratory from a single queen resulting from a swarm in order to guarantee their good health.

With its long legs, its matte black color and reddish on the abdomen, Camponotus cruentatus is a remarkable ant which does not fail to fascinate its breeder. The breeding of Camponotus cruentatus is particularly appreciable and has been one of our favorites since our beginnings.

She is also quite aggressive and reactive and will not hesitate to defend herself in case of aggression. His reactions are remarkably quick.

Camponotus, however, develops more slowly and is less recommended for beginners than Messor for example, because it must be fed about 3 to 7 times a week with sweet liquids, small dead insects and various solid or liquid foods. A high temperature is also important to allow it to develop.

All our models of Artificial Anthills are perfectly adapted to Camponotus cruentatus. It is enough to humidify the Anthill more lightly in order to meet its needs lower than those of Messor barbarus.

Size of the queen: about 15mm
Size of the workers: from 6 to 21mm
Recommended daytime temperature: 30°C with a cooler zone
Recommended nighttime temperature: 19-24°C
Food: sugary and protein liquids, insects…
Wintering: 6 weeks from 8 to 17°C. Keep an eye on the humidity and continue to feed the ants during this period.
