The difference in size is impressive between the queen of 6 millimeters and the tiny workers of just over a millimeter. These little workers are reminiscent of the Crematogaster and release a defensive substance by their stinger held above them.

Although tiny, this species is interesting for its rapid development and the activity that can be observed within the colony. Adult colonies can reach an impressive size and this small, light yellow species turns out to be more intriguing and endearing than it looks.

Attention: Solenopsis fugax requires extremely high humidity! The anthill must be adapted to this species, but its small size also allows it to be raised for some time in a tube, provided that an almost hermetic cap is used.

For food, watch that the little workers do not stick in the liquids. Otherwise, add a few strands of cotton to absorb them. Watch out for condensation too.

Solenopsis fugax feeds on biscuit crumbs, insects, jellies and many foods in very small quantities. It is advisable to quickly remove uneaten food, especially jellies which can liquefy with the high humidity of the tube or nest.
