Description
Immerse yourself in an exciting discovery!
This Pack was developed by Fourmiculture to allow everyone to successfully found a colony and its fascinating breeding with less than 5 minutes of maintenance per week. To achieve this, we have selected a Queen and her workers in a breeding tube adapted to the life of ants, a Tube Holder, food and accessories.
Here is your Queen, her name is Messor barbarus and she is about 13mm tall in your ant pack.
Born in the Hérault, she flew to mate in October and founded her colony in a breeding tube designed to recreate the conditions of humidity and restricted space that she needs.
The transparent glass tube makes it possible to follow all the activities of the queen and the nascent colony by providing suitable conditions. The Tube Holder serves as a support and allows the workers to be fed through the dedicated area.
Already accompanied by several workers, the colony is ready to continue its development in a tube as long as there is humidity. It is possible to change the original tube every 6 months and empty the colony into the new tube, or have it quickly join an optional more spacious artificial anthill in the future once its development is successful.
More info on the ants pack:
Maintenance to be planned: 5 minutes per week (feed 1x per week approximately + change the tube every 3 to 6 months)
Lifespan of the queen: up to 15 years (we take over the colony if you wish to part with it).
Monthly cost: about 1€ for food and electricity (for heating).
Contents of the ants pack:
1. The colony of Messor barbarus
Delivered in a breeding tube with humidity. A perfect species for beautiful observations.
2. The Perfect Ant Farmer's Guide.
With its ten pages, it is both a breeding guide, a booklet on the way of life of ants and an FAQ to answer your questions such as "How does the colony evolve in the long term?" What is brood? What can I observe in particular? What is the distribution of tasks? " Etc.
3. The Foundation Tube Holder.
Rearing tube support and integrated feeding area for future workers.
It makes it possible to feed the workers from birth and to continue raising up to several dozen workers.
Subsequently, it is possible to change the tube or connect it to a more spacious artificial anthill.
3. The food :
The ants will mainly feed on seeds for Messor as well as possibly small insects. A packet of seeds is provided and will last for several months from the birth of the first workers.4. Heating:
The heating mat will help you maintain the colony at 27°C, the ideal temperature for the queen to lay eggs and for the colony to grow over time. It lands on the rearing tube, or underneath (monitor the temperature with the thermometer!).
5. Electronic thermometer to monitor temperature.
6. Myrmecology magnifying glass
To not miss any details of your colony and dive into their world with, communication between workers, the evolution of eggs, etc. Very powerful magnification! To be held almost against the eye, like a jeweler.
7. 3-month success insurance on ants:
Delivery of the queen in good health is guaranteed by carrier for 48 hours. Then, our expert equipment ensures very easy success and everything is done to help you succeed in your “culture”, for the respect of the ants and your pleasure. Thus, a 3-month Success Insurance is simply offered in the Foundation Pack!
This insurance allows, in case of loss of the queen up to 3 months after delivery, regardless of the reason, to receive a new colony free of charge on simple request! Transport offered to metropolitan France only.

The Calendar of the Perfect Antculturist:
1/ I order today, I receive my package in a few days (orders placed after Thursday noon will be shipped the following week).
2/ I place the tube with my colony on the tube holder after removing the cotton plug. I gradually place the heating mat under the tube, or over it, providing a distance to avoid overheating. I gradually bring the carpet closer until I get 27°C after a few hours. Attention: the colony must follow a period of winter rest between 8 and 17°C from the end of November to the end of January.
4/ I place a pinch of seeds in the feeding part of the tube holder, under the lid. The queen will lay eggs in the following days or weeks. The eggs will hatch into larvae, which will become nymphs, then finally workers, the first of a great city! Count 1 to 2 months from egg to worker.
5/ As long as the tube is wet, the ants can continue their development! It will then be possible to move them to a new tube, or a more spacious artificial anthill, or to send the colony back to us if you do not wish to extend the experience.
Another look at nature and the world of ants.
We have helped nearly 10,000 enthusiasts and hundreds of schools to host an anthill (we know it: children are not the same after such a discovery, ants have a power of attraction that allows you to change your outlook on nature).
Taking care of your anthill is stress-free but very rewarding from the first birth and mesmerizing when the population increases.
Example after about 1 year of development and transfer to a separately sold Minora anthill (Messor minor species).
Don't take any chances on this ant pack!
1/ Unlimited insurance on the queen: if she does not survive after 3 months of rearing, we will send you one free of charge.
2/ Thirty days to test the equipment and send it back for a refund if you are not convinced.
3/ Colony taken back if you want to part with it: we pay the return costs of 5€ and take back your colony if you want to part with it in the future.
